Infographics

Infographics are everywhere. They are a valuable tools used to distill and distribute information. My campus uses Canva, and I have used it to create several infographics and other media. Today, I explored three new (to me) platforms for creating infographics: Easel.ly, Infogram, and Piktochart.

All three have have pros and cons. Each has a free version, but features are extremely limited until you are willing to upgrade and subscribe. The price point varies widely, with infogram at the high end of the scale. Easel.ly only had three options for charts, while Piktochart and Infogram had many. Easel.ly allows you to download “low quality” versions of your project for free. Piktochart allows two free downloads then you have to subscribe. Infogram did not allow any downloads in their free version. All three offered data uploading. I thought the Piktochart platform was the most user-friendly option for this feature, you could easily upload from several spreadsheet applications like Google Sheets or Excel. The graphics available on Easel.ly were by far the best, with many options to choose from. The following are the results of a quick creation on each platform. I used this Pew Research Article for the data represented, and I used Canva to put all of the pieces together.

I am a regular Canva user, and at the end of the day, this is still what I prefer. Partly due to familiarity, but I also find it to be intuitive and user friendly and it has all of the features I like in one place.

Learning to create infographics is a skill that can have a big impact. These tools take a job that was once very tedious and make it easy to present data in a user-friendly and engaging manner.

  1. It seems like the consensus is that Canva is the best app. What's interesting to me is that no one used Canva up until about maybe the beginning of 2023 to do this assignment. These companies had an open field, but Canva really made a huge difference in the market. The research in your infographics was thought-provoking. My daughter lives in a somewhat rural area, and we always worry whether-- if we would need it-- could we get a ride to the city! Very interesting.

  2. Hello Cindi! I would agree that the different websites had their own pros and cons when utilizing their features. Piktochart was a fairly easy website to navigate when organizing the information together. Your infographic created was very informative while giving the information provided in the article. Along with that, you provided great detail of each website to help new users find the one that they would prefer to use. In the end, I would highly recommend Canva as you mentioned. Many educators have become very familiar with Canva and love the many features that it has to offer. The main advantage is that educators have access to the pro version for free and do not have to upgrade for any features as in the websites explored. I found this module to be very useful as it helped us learn new ways to share information with the use of a variety of resources.

  3. I have found Canva to be the best option, especially since I learned this summer that they provide free accounts to educators and are big supporters of education around the world.

That being said, your infographics from each site are engaging and easy to read. I like how you included the prices in the infographic to compare the value of each component.

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. Hi Cindi! Canva is definitely easier than this other website, but I am sure the more we use it and master it, the easier it becomes. I do like your infographics. I have found infographics to be a great way to visually present data.
